ABOUT ME
Sankara Xasha Ture McCain is an ambitious individual in the mist of making her mark upon this lifetime. The definition of Sankara is determination. She is determined to take on any challenges the world has to offer. Being raised in Gary, Indiana from the tender age of one has taught her the truest definition of determination as well as survival. Growing up in a poverty strickened environment helped her to realize, "its not where you are from, but where you are going." With strong support, morals, and expectations of her parents, Sankara always wanted to provide a positive influence for the next individual that she had encounters with. Her parents placed her in dance in order to channel that energy through the realm of Performing Arts. The artform of dance taught her that no dream is too big or ambition is too deep to achieve. This has been the point she has always tried to make. Sankara currently attends the MECCA, Howard University where she studies Fashion Merchandising. In 2009 she and a friend (Dominique Atwood) founded a contemporary dance company on the campus titled, I.AM.WE. Contemporary Dance Company which is the first and only contemporary dance company on the campus. Aside from school and dance, Sankara has done Visual Merchandising for H&M and Forever 21. Currently she does Freelance Styling and serves as the Assistant to legendary costume designer Reggie Ray (Stick Fly Broadway 2011). In the summer 2012, Sankara designed her first show in New York, New York. The show was entitled "Chasing the Bird," starring tap legend Jason Samuel Smith and produced and directed by actor/tapper Dulé Hill. Sankara Xasha Ture's goal is to show the world the thoughts that go on in her head and appear through the expression of fashion. Fashion is her passion, something that she truly devotes herself to in more ways than one. She feels that we as people all have some type of expression that need to be released. "Anything that expresses your inner souls shall be revealed."
